march 17, 2008 the only time I’ve ever been in Shreve & Co.
This past Saturday was Brides of March—-a very San Francisco event organized by the (appropriately titled) Cacophony Society—-wherein women and hairy men alike dress up as brides and tromp tipsily around Union Square, rain or shine. My two friends and I joined a mob that made its way into Shreve & Co. to ogle the rings, down Maiden Lane, into Neiman Marcus (to the horror of many pursed-lipped perfume saleswomen), and the Westin St. Francis, where we were finally kicked out. Probably the most impressive part was how many people there were (a hundred or more), and how many people had seriously elaborate wedding dresses. Although I suppose if you’ve already been married (or better, bitterly divorced), you many as well let your wedding dress go out with a bang by having it trampled by a drunk, green-wigged man-bride in army boots!

This entailed poking around a still-unfamiliar cubicled space which, depending on where I choose to go for the next two years, might be the new site of my over-caffeination and carpal-tunnel-syndrome development. I took advantage of the free goldfish crackers. And the stickers:
